A brief history of the
UCC-AAUP chapter's activities in August:
Union President Bob Comeau announced that negotiations were proceeding after a very late start by the UCC administration’s team; the first meeting was held on June 30.
A chapter meeting was held on Monday, August 17, at 1 pm in the Main Lecture Hall, for the purpose of being informed on, and discussion of, the ongoing bargaining process. Guest speaker, Prof. Ernst Benjamin, former General Secretary of AAUP and co-author of Academic Collective Bargaining, a collection of essays co-published by the AAUP and the MLA, gave an informative lecture/advice on the negotiation process.
At the August 17 UCC-AAUP meeting the chapter passed the following resolution of support: “The Members of the Union County College Chapter of AAUP strongly support their bargaining team in their work to achieve a fair agreement with respect to health care benefits and protection of the contractual relationship with the UCC administration that has worked well for the past 30 years.”
Another very well-attended information meeting/rally was held in the theater Wednesday, August 26 at 11 AM.
A Rally/Picnic in Nomahegan Park was scheduled for 2:00 PM, Friday 8/28, but was cancelled due to concerns about predicted severe weather.
Monday, August 31 at 1 pm, Main Lecture Hall - final meeting before our contract expires to discuss the agreement reached.
